Additional UConn Information

  • Faculty Engaging with Learning Community Program

The Learning Community Program at UConn collaborates with faculty and staff across many different departments and programs.  This year the Learning Community Program is enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with three new Faculty Directors; Dr. Stephen Dyson, Dr. Richard Parnas, and Dr. Diana Rios.

    Dr. Stephen Dyson

    Associate Professor of Political Science

    Faculty Director of Humanities House

“In Humanities House, we learn together through a mash-up of high and pop culture, world trends and our daily experiences at UConn. We help each other to be sensitive, engaged interpreters of our time and place in the world, while learning the empathy to see life as others do too. As faculty director, I'm looking to create an outstanding liberal arts college within the context of this big, powerful research institution.”

    Dr. Richard Parnas

Professor of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering

    Faculty Director of EcoHouse

“I hope that I can help EcoHouse students learn to separate facts from fiction, marketing, and political posturing as they learn about environmental issues such as climate change, renewable energy, and food production.”

    Dr. Diana Rios

    Associate Professor of Communications

Faculty Director of La Comunidad Intelectual

“Our big themes this year are the emerging intellectual and developing identities. La Comunidad Intelectual encourages each student to nurture their intellectual perspectives and treasure their new academic and professional identities.  These topics of intellectualism and identity are important for young adults who are redefining who they are and where they fit in the university world, and where they will fit into the world beyond the ivory tower.”
