The Asian and Asian American Studies Institute in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is pleased to co-host the 2014 annual meeting of the New England Association for Asian Studies Academic Conference on Saturday, October 4, with all conference activities taking place in the Nathan Hale Inn and Conference Center.

This year’s conference marks a watershed moment for the Asian and Asian American Studies Institute. Founded in 1993, the Institute’s research and teaching focus centered on Asian American studies. Recognizing a need to recalibrate to trends in the field – which involve increased engagements with Asia as a critical site – we embarked on an ambitious expansion plan to increase our purview to encompass Asian studies. The success of the hiring cluster brought new faculty focused on Asian studies to UConn, and entailed a revision of our mission as well as a name change. So it is at the end of this transformative process that we have the honor of inviting faculty, staff and students to join us, as we introduce you to the profound diversity of research and inquiry in our field and to begin the types of exchanges we hope to foster moving forward.

Detailed information about the Institute’s Faculty and Initiatives are available on our re-designed website at http://www.asianamerican.uconn.edu
