Special Events and Receptions

  • 9/4 You're invited to the Benton Opening Reception

The William Benton Museum of Art invites you to attend the opening reception for the new fall exhibitions:
"The 48th Annual Art Department Faculty Exhibition" and
"Victory is a Question of Stamina: Posters from the First World War"
Thursday, September 4, from 4:30 to 7 pm.

Admission is free. Refreshments and music.

The 48th Annual Art Department Faculty Exhibition showcases the latest works of UConn’s studio art faculty members. Their art reflects significant directions in contemporary art as well as the unique vision of each faculty artist. Photographer Charles Hagen and graphic designer Edvin Yegir are this year’s featured artists.

Victory is a Question of Stamina: Posters from the First World War marks the centennial of the start of WWI with an exhibition of posters from the Benton's permanent collection contextualized with photographs and artifacts. Bold and vibrant with compelling imagery and straightforward text, posters encouraged people to participate in all aspects of the war effort from contributing money to joining the armed forces. This exhibition, which takes its title from a poster slogan used by the U.S. Food Administration in support of voluntary food conservation, focuses on the role women played both on the home front and the fighting front in achieving Allied victory. The exhibition is curated in collaboration with UConn’s Department of History, the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, and the School of Nursing.

MUSEUM HOURS: Tuesday through Friday 10 to 4:30 / Saturday and Sunday 1 to 4:30. Closed Monday.
