  • 10/7 Invasive Plant Symposium at Student Union

    EARLY REGISTRATION ENDS SEPTEMBER 8 FOR INVASIVE PLANT SYMPOSIUM

    Please join us for an Invasive Plant Symposium: “Invasive Plants 2014: Where Are We Now?”, which will be held at the UConn Student Union in Storrs, CT on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.  The symposium will be presented by the Connecticut Invasive Plant Working Group (CIPWG).  People with all levels of interest and experience are invited to attend. 

    The Keynote Address will be given by Dr. Sarah Reichard, Professor and Director of the University of Washington Botanic Gardens, who will present, “Five-year Target:  A down-to-earth vision bridging policy, research and management”.  Additional morning presentations will include legislative updates from the Invasive Plants Council and contracting invasive plant control. 

    Concurrent Afternoon Session Topics will include:

    • Tips for successful invasive plant management projects
    • Alternative plants for improving gardens and other areas as wildlife habitat
    • Priorities and partnering for invasive plant management
    • Aquatic invasive plant updates
    • Early Detection – curbing the spread
    • Species-specific invasive plant identification, management and alternative plants

    Research posters, an invasive plant identification area and other educational exhibits will be featured throughout the day.  The registration fee includes parking and lunch.

    Pesticide Recertification Credits and a variety of other continuing education credits (CEUs) will be offered (see website).  Attendees are advised to register early, as the last symposium had record attendance and sold out with 475 attendees.

    FEE:  $45 – EARLY postmarked or online by September 8; $55 – REGULAR postmarked or online after September 8; $25 – STUDENT (must bring current ID)
