  • Phalaenopsis Orchids at UConn Blooms

Perhaps the perfect windowsill orchid, phalaenopsis (or phals for short) are easy to grow.  Phalaina means "moth" in Greek, and it's easy to see how they were named.  Their delicately rounded flowers resemble a group of moths gracefully alighting upon an arched branch.  Primitive and mysterious, orchids have aroused passions and piqued curiosities for centuries.  Among the greatest myths are that orchids are expensive to buy, difficult to grow, and need expert care.  Not any more!

UConn Blooms has a wonderful assortment of large colorful Phalaenopsis.  Orchids are surprisingly tough plants.  One plant can hold its blossoms from several weeks to several months.  They require good light but not directly on them.  Water them with two ice cubes a week and that is it! How easy does it get!  We also have a large supply of African Violets, an even easier plant to grow!!

Anyone who has fallen under the spell of orchids knows how easily you can get hooked!  Once an amateur has grown their first plant or two, they usually find it impossible to stop. This is a good kind of addiction!  Their range of beauty is unsurpassed in horticulture.  Stop by to find the perfect plant for you.  These large plants are only $23.99.

UConn Bloooms is located in the Floriculture Building across from the yellow barn on Route 195.  Parking is available in the spaces alongside our greenhouse driveway.  We are open Monday through Friday from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM.  Delivery is available to any on-campus site.
