Perhaps the perfect windowsill orchid, phalaenopsis (or phals for short) are easy to grow. Phalaina means "moth" in Greek, and it's easy to see how they were named. Their delicately rounded flowers resemble a group of moths gracefully alighting upon an arched branch. Primitive and mysterious, orchids have aroused passions and piqued curiosities for centuries. UConn Blooms has a wonderful assortment of large colorful Phalaenopsis. Orchids are surprisingly tough plants. One plant can hold its blossoms from several weeks to several months. They require good light but not directly on them. Water them with two ice cubes a week and that is it! How easy does it get!
