  • New Leadership for Technology Commercialization

It gives me great pleasure to inform the UConn community that Dr. Ali Andalibi, Associate Vice President for Research, will lead the University’s technology commercialization activities within the Office of the Vice President for Research. His extensive experience in academia, industry, and government is particularly well suited to not only help us grow research at UConn, but also to translate the discoveries of our faculty into products that benefit society.

Dr. Andalibi came to UConn from Stony Brook University where he served as the Associate Vice President for Research. Prior to that, he held the position of Vice President for Research and Chief Scientific Officer at the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. In both capacities, he shaped the strategies and plans for the organizations’ research efforts and oversaw their technology commercialization operations.

Dr. Andalibi has also been involved in supporting startup creation and technology commercialization at the national level. While at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), he helped establish the NCI’s SBIR Development Center and led the Therapeutics and Diagnostics Section at the Center. Prior to joining the NCI, he served as a Program Director in the National Science Foundation’s Division of Industrial Innovation and Partnerships, managing the NSF’s medical biotechnology portfolio. Moreover, Dr. Andalibi has been involved in several early stage biotechnology companies.

Dr. Andalibi will oversee all activities involving technology commercialization and new company creation for all UConn campuses. He has been charged with creating new collaborations within and outside UConn and growing a culture of entrepreneurship among faculty and students. These objectives are consistent with the goal of the Office of the Vice President for Research to help deliver on the full promise of NextGen CT, including facilitating the translation of faculty discoveries into innovations that bring benefit to UConn, our state and our nation.

    Sincerely,

    Jeff Seemann

    Vice President for Research
