  • Men's Project Seeking Participants

We are currently seeking participants for the Spring 2014 Men’s Project, which is an eleven-week training that begins on Wednesday February 5, 2014.

The program is supported by the UConn Women’s Center and the Asian American Cultural Center, whose staff serve as advisors and support for this initiative.  The weekly meetings will focus on topics related to gender socialization, masculinities, social justice and gender-based violence.  This iteration of the Men’s Project will be co-facilitated by Atilla Cidam and Brad Weisz, both graduate students the Social Psychology PhD program.  Our goal is to train men who will then positively influence their peers by challenging other men to examine their own socialization.  Last year's participants shared that the program was transformative, challenging, and that after the program their implementation of bystander intervention strategies greatly increased.

We will select approximately 20 men for this initiative.  The purpose of the project is to identify and train men who may be seen as having influence with their peers.  However all men are encouraged to apply.  We are looking for a diverse group of men with unique experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds.  Ideal candidates are men who relate well to other men and who are sensitive to issues of violence against women.  These men may have many different personalities, but it is essential that they be open to collective and collaborative learning.

If you are interested in participating or would like to recommend another student, please forward the relevant contact information to Lauren Donais at lauren.donais@uconn.edu by Monday, January 27.
