  • Community School of the Arts Now Enrolling

     

    The Community School of the Arts (CSA) at UConn is now enrolling students in its spring program of non-credit, affordable classes in music and art for adults, teens, and children. Most classes begin the week of January 27, 2014.

    Handbuilding & Surface Design (Pottery) with Sherie Gage for adult and teen students of all levels of experience. Techniques covered will include addition with slip and coils and subtraction through carving, stamping texture and inlay, sgraffito, monoprint transfer, linocut printing, applique and decals. The course is offered Thursdays from 7:00-9:00 p.m. for 12 weeks, for $325. Pottery I on Wednesdays from 7-9:00 p.m. with Teri herel is also $325 and includes all materials and additional monitored studio time.

    Other regular offerings at CSA include: Family Clay: Pre-school for children 3½-6 and Family Clay for ages 6 and up. Parent or caregiver and child can learn the basics of clay by building fun projects together. Fees for Family Clay: Preschool are $215 for parent and child together and additional family members are $95 each. Fees for Family Clay are $275 for Parent and child together and $125 for additional family members. Sherie Gage will be teaching both Family courses for 10 Saturday mornings at 9:00 and 10:45 respectively.

    For students ages 6-10, Fun with Clay is an opportunity to make their own creations from clay while learning the basic methods of pinch, coil and slab. Youth Wheel is for older children, ages 9-13 to create bowls, mugs and other vessels using the pottery wheel. Rachel Clark will be instructing Fun with Clay for 12 Tuesdays and Youth Wheel for 12 Thursdays. The time and fee for each class is 4:30-6:00, $245.

    Drawing, painting, crafts and other media are explored in courses for different age groups. All Things Art (ages 5-7 and 8-10), is offered on 12 Wednesdays with Rachel Clark at 4:30 (ages 5-7) or 6:00 p.m.(ages 8-10) or 12 Saturdays with Barbara Timberman, at 9:00 a.m.(ages 5-7) or 10:30 a.m.(ages 8-10).The fee is $195. Drawing and 2-D Media with Sherie Gage will be held on 12 Tuesdays from 4:30-6:00 p.m. for students who are serious about improving their skill and understanding of art (ages 9-14.) The fee is $235. All CSA art classes explore drawing, painting and a variety of craft and other materials, art history and the basic elements and principals of design.

    In addition CSA also offers Private Instrumental or Voice Lessons, Early Childhood Music Classes, Suzuki Violin, Cello or Guitar, a variety of Ensembles, Treblemakers Childrens Choir, Music Theory Classes, Group Class Piano for Children and School Vacation Arts and Wheel Workshop.
