  • Walk-Through Metal Detectors Now In Use At Gampel

The University of Connecticut will begin to utilize walk-through metal detectors at Gampel Pavilion for events beginning in May 2019 as part of an ongoing commitment to safety and security. These detectors will be in use at Commencement exercises held in Gampel on Saturday and Sunday, May 11-12.

The walk-through metal detectors will be used at all men’s and women’s basketball games at Gampel Pavilion starting in the 2019-20 season. Similar detectors have been used for UConn basketball and hockey games at the XL Center in Hartford since 2018 and for football games at Pratt & Whitney Stadium in East Hartford since 2017.

Fans and guests are always encouraged to arrive early at venues to ensure a sufficient amount of time for screening and entry.

The use of walk-through metal detectors for other events at Gampel Pavilion will be in effect on a case-by-case basis.

Guests entering with bags should consult with UConn’s bag policy. After having bags checked, guests will pass through the metal detectors and then have tickets scanned for entry to the venue.

Entrants will not be required to remove belts, coins, watches, jewelry, wallets, or shoes. They will be asked to remove cell phones, cameras, headwear, keys and other large metal objects.
