Rum Runners of the Prohibition Era

    By Bailey Pryor

Emmy Award winning documentary filmmaker, Founder of The Real McCoy Rum

Experience an alcohol-infused journey through prohibition history, as filmmaker Bailey Pryor explains how Rum Runners fueled the “Roaring Twenties” by transporting alcohol by boat along the coast of the United States during Prohibition. The pioneer rum runner and “King of Rum Row” was Bill McCoy, who famously became known as “The Real McCoy” for never “cutting” his rum with wicked chemicals like turpentine, wood alcohol or prune juice. McCoy operated in waters just off Montauk Point, and many cases of his famous rum ended up in Groton, New London and Mystic. This is a colorful and entertaining journey back in time that leaves you with a better understanding of the Prohibition era.

Bailey Pryor is a six-time Emmy Award winning documentary filmmaker and founder of The Real McCoy Rum. Bailey will conduct a rum tasting and discuss the history of the Rum Runners of the Prohibition era (many of whom operated in waters near Stonington). This experience will leave you better informed about rum and maritime history, as well as provide the incredibly rare opportunity to sample one-of-kind Limited Edition rum from Barbados.
