Construction Update

  • Construction Update - June 11

    Managers: Please post this update in your respective areas.

    MDC Water Main through Lot L3

    • Project Scope: Installation of a new larger and redundant water supply line to the campus by the Metropolitan District Commission (MDC).
    • Schedule: Excavation work is complete in Lot L3 (formerly known as Shuttle Lot 3) and Shuttle Road.  Work will continue for the next two weeks to test the installation, clean up and restore the site.  Final paving will follow later in the summer.
    • Impacts:
      • Some areas of Lot L3 are now barricaded as a construction site. Do not enter the closed area.
      • Traffic light control at the Circle Road intersection will continue through mid-June while the area is being restored. Please allow extra time for travel through this area.  Garage 1 parkers are encouraged to use Dowling Way in lieu of Circle Road during the next few weeks
      • Please follow signage and use the temporary walk while this work is underway.
    • New Traffic Pattern at Circle and Shuttle Roads:
      • Upon removal of the temporary traffic lights, new stop signs will be installed making this intersection a 3-way stop.  The 3-way stop will improve safety for pedestrians when crossing and manage traffic at Circle and Shuttle Roads.

    Main Building – Clinic (C) Area Renovations

    Power washing of the Main Entrance canopy will take place starting Friday night June 8th through Sunday June 10th.  The main lobby entrance will still be accessible.  Be aware of the entrance access detour signage.

    • Project Scope: Renovations to Dental care areas, Cardiology, Main Lobby and other clinical areas. Replace mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems associated with the renovated areas.
    • Schedule: Phase 1 and 2 complete, Phase 3 target completion 10/2018 and Phase 4 target completion 12/2018
    • Impacts:
      • Be aware of posted signage and do not enter construction areas.
      • Construction work may generate some odors and drilling noise, please contact Kevin Norton 860-480-9815 to report any issues.

     Main Accumulation Area Facility (MAA Building)

    • Project Scope: Construction of a new 2,500 sf facility to consolidate chemical waste handling and shipping activities.
    • Schedule: Target completion September 2018
    • Impacts:
      • Construction materials are being delivered through Parking Lot A2, (formerly A & B lots).  Please be cautious and aware of truck traffic in the area.
      • Site lighting has been removed in the construction area which may impact lighting at the East Road parking areas adjacent to the site.

     Campus Wayfinding Signage

    • Project Scope: Removal and replacement of all exterior wayfinding signs.
    • Schedule: Signs are complete with the exception of 2 signs where site conflicts are being worked out.
    • Impacts:
      • Signs are close to roadways and will require periodic narrowing of lanes to complete work.  Please be cautious when traveling in the area and obey all cones, signage and personnel or officers providing traffic control.

     Fencing Installation at Garage 1

    • Project Scope: Installation of safety barrier fencing at Garage 1on Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6
    • Schedule: Levels 3-5 complete.  Level 6 in progress through early June.
    • Impacts:
      • The Level 6 staff entrance and exit will be closed on Saturday 6/9 to allow fencing to be installed adjacent to those travel lanes.  Please use the Level 1 or Level 2 entrances on that date.  (Note this work was postponed from 6/2 due to weather.)
      • The Garage will remain open.  Work will be done in phases so the impact to parking can be minimized.  Please be cautious when traveling in the area and obey all cones, signage and personnel providing traffic control.

    Parking Lot A6 Renovations (formerly known as Parking Lot M)

    • Project Scope: Refurbish parking lot by removing concrete trailer piers, modifying layout regrading and re-paving.
    • Schedule: Work is scheduled to be complete end of June.
    • Impacts:
      • No parking will be allowed in parking lot A6 during the construction period.
      • Please use the sidewalk across the street which is next to garage 2.

    Connecticut Tower Roof Antenna Anchor Replacement

    • Project Scope: Northeast tower is replacing the guy wire anchors for the 59’ antenna located on the H Building roof.
    • Schedule: Target completion July 2018
    • Impacts:
      • Steel will need to be craned up to the roof of Connecticut Tower (H Building).  This work is in the process of being scheduled to minimize impacts to the F building procedure center and radiology areas.

     Campus Roads and Parking Lots

    • Project Scope: Potholes and damaged surfaces on various roads and parking lots will be repaired in the coming weeks.
    • Schedule: Work will be starting at Munson Road and subsequently moving to other areas on campus. Target Completion for repairs – July 2018
    • Impacts:
      • Please exercise caution and drive slowly in areas where repairs are underway.

     195 Farmington Farmington Avenue Sidewalk

    • Project Scope: Installation of a new sidewalk connecting Lot L3 (formerly Shuttle Lot #3) with the parking lot at 195 Farmington Ave.
    • Schedule: Excavation work is expected to start this week to construct the sidewalk between the two lots.  The work will only take a week or so to complete.

     Fire Pump Controller Replacement

    • Project Scope: Replacement of the existing fire pump controller & removal of the old fire pump.
    • Schedule: Target completion September 2018
    • Impacts:
      • The southeast end of Parking Lot A3, (formerly parking Lot C) and the staff entrance located off stairwell AS3 will be impacted during work on the exterior of A Building.  A new fire department connection and test header for the sprinkler system will be installed.  Be aware of posted signage and do not enter construction areas.
      • Construction work may generate some drilling noise, please contact Rich Allen at 860-480-2087 to report any issues.
