Mansfield Youth Services Big Friends supports Mansfield children and their families by encouraging social and academic enrichment through group interactions and 1-on-1 activities.
UConn Big Friends will be paired with a student grade K-8 with whom they will work throughout the year to build a stable relationship by being a positive, enthusiastic role model and by taking an active interest in the student's life.
How: Through their continued participation, Big Friends will increase their students’ self-worth and confidence in their learning abilities by stressing the importance of their educational and social development.
When and Where: Big Friends meets every Tuesday from 5:15-6:45 at the Mansfield Town Hall (across the street from Price Chopper). Because the service site is so close, participants walk or use their own vehicles to get to Mansfield Town Hall.
Who: We are looking for any undergraduate student who has a passion for or interest in working with children. No prior experience with children is required, but it would helpful to have if interested in this program.
