  • 2/8 UConn Science Salon Takes on Concussions

UConn Science Salon presents Whacked: Sports, Impact, and Young Athletes' Brains

    Thursday, February 8, 2018 | 6 p.m.
Dunkin' Donuts Park, 1214 Main St., Hartford, Conn.

Concussion brain damage doesn’t just happen to former boxers and football players. Knock that idea out of your head. Surprisingly, the athletes most at risk of concussions are kids—in particular, boys playing football, girls playing lacrosse, and everyone playing soccer. But we’re not here to tell you to stop your daughters and sons from playing sports (c’mon, we’re UConn!) Instead, at the next UConn Science Salon we’ll bring our experts on athletics, medicine, and the law to discuss how the latest research on concussions is changing the landscape of youth and professional sport. Because we want to keep kids’ brains, and those of the rest of us, at the top of our games.

Come out to Dunkin' Donuts Park, home of the Hartford Yard Goats, to hear from our esteemed panelists:

    • Dr. Anthony Alessi: UConn Health associate clinical professor, neurology and orthopedics; director, UConn NeuroSport Program
    • Joanne Conover, Ph.D.: UConn associate professor of physiology and neurobiology
    • Paul A. Slager: Partner, Silver, Golub & Teitell LLP
    • Moderator: Eric Kopp ’95, ProEx Physical Therapy, Co-Director of Clinical Education/Physical Therapist

Click here to visit the registration page.

$15 per person ticket price includes appetizers and a drink. Please RSVP by February 2, 2018. We look forward to seeing you there!
