  • Join Rural Semester

Are you an undergraduate student at Uconn seeking to put your hands in the soil of your work? Register for the Rural Semester program, where you can stay local and dig deeper!

Rural Semester is an innovative opportunity with an emphasis on the intersections of food sustainability, environmentalism, and social justice that even features a 6-credit Summer internship!

Rural Semester offers students a unique opportunity to connect theory and practice through classroom-based work with service learning and hands-on experiences in the local community.  Focusing specifically on the issues of food sustainability, environmentalism, and social justice students will gain vital skills that will enable them to become leaders in society's slow and contentious, but on-going, shift to a more equitable, just and sustainable future.

The program consists of a  3-credit "Sociology of Food" course,  6-credit Summer internship at Spring Valley Student Farm, and two thrilling 3-credit  Fall courses including "Sustainable Community Food Systems"! There is very limited space so it is advised undergrads sign up quickly.
