Poverty Inc. Documentary Screening and Dinner Discussion

Poverty Inc. Documentary reflects on the effects of the multibillion-dollar poverty industrial complex erected to promote aid. It explores the neocolonial power dynamics and embedded paternalism that are predominant in the mode of assistance that often times situate the poor as the other and makes them seem as the object of charity rather than actors as participants of their own stories.
As part of their Dialogues, Community Outreach will screen the documentary on Wednesday, October 18th at 4pm, followed by a dinner reflection where students will discuss the main parts of the film, review their own beliefs and think on how to apply them to their different activist and program initiatives.
