  • 9/13 Mystery Alt Break Trip Team Leader Apps Due Today

The alternative breaks team leader application closes TODAY, WEDNESDAY September 13th at NOON!

This year's Mystery trip centered on Urban Development, Education and Civic Engagement is looking for students to help lead and facilitate discussions and service. We keep our location a mystery before acceptance to ensure a focus on the topic rather than the destination. In pre-trip meetings and on our trip we will explore U.S. education systems and social factors that play a role in shaping societal inequities early on. We will also look at how this intersects with economic development and the criminal justice system as it relates to the school-to-prison pipeline. Service could fall under many different categories, including poverty, race, education and human rights. Finally, we'll learn about community activism efforts and how to instill informed active citizenship in our lives.

Team Leaders are responsible for supporting their corresponding Trip Directors in the coordination and supervision of a designated Community Outreach Alternative Break trip. Alternative Break trips are student-run and promote service-learning through direct public service with regional, national and international communities to heighten social awareness, enhance personal growth and advocate lifelong social action.
