  • Summer Field Course: Field Parasitology, EEB 3264

A new EEB summer course is being offered this summer: Field Parasitology. Come explore the wonderful and some times creepy world of parasites! You will learn about parasite morphology, life cycles, and transmission as well as about their evolution and adaptations. We will talk about how to id parasites, how to avoid becoming infected, how they will be effected by climate change, and we will look at how some parasites are able to turn their hosts into zombies! There will be several on campus field outings to collect specimens as well as two off campus field trips, one to the Fenton River and one to the coast. In the lab you will dissect hosts in order to find, identify, and preserve parasites. We will be looking at both human and animal parasites so this course will be particularly relevant to both pre-med and pre-vet students! This is a May course that will run from the 8-26th, Monday-Friday from 1:00-5:00PM. Course number is EEB 3264. Please email kaitlin.gallagher@uconn.edu for a permission number.
