  • 11/29 Honest Conversations With Our Muslim Neighbors

On Tuesday, November 29 at 7 p.m., the Windham Region Inter-Faith Working Group and the ECSU Campus Ministry are co-sponsoring “HONEST CONVERSATIONS WITH OUR MUSLIM NEIGHBORS.”

Who are our Muslim neighbors? What do they believe? How do extremist actions worldwide affect them? Hear Connecticut Muslims share their stories and their own experience, and respond to questions such as:  Why don’t we hear moderate Muslims speak out against extremism? Why do some girls & women wear Muslim dress, and others do not? What does the Qur’an really say about people of other religions? Together, in conversation, we can work for a more peaceful world for everyone.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend to ask questions about Islam and hear directly from Connecticut Muslims about their own stories and experiences.  The Forum will be held at Eastern Connecticut State University in the Betty Tipton Room at the Student Center, entrance from High street.

The Inter-Faith Working Group was formed to promote understanding and knowledge about the cultures and beliefs of our diverse communities, recognizing our shared values and respecting our differences.  The Working Group has representatives from Christian, Jewish, and Muslim community members, and the “Honest Conversations” is the first of many dialogues and interchanges that will be held throughout the Windham and Mansfield communities.  For more information, please contact the ECSU Campus Ministry at (860) 423-0856 or Ahmet Caglar at (860) 879-5657.

The Windham Region Inter-Faith Working Group and its events are co-sponsored by the Storrs Congregational Church UCC, a member of the Area Association of Religious Communities (AARC), UConn's officially recognized roundtable of religious organizations serving the UConn community.
