Implementing Intercultural Competence and Intercultural Citizenship in Courses Across Disciplines

with Manuela Wagner (Languages) and Fabiana Cardetti (Mathematics)

In this session we demonstrate how theory of intercultural competence (Byram, 1997) and intercultural citizenship (Byram, 2008) can be implemented with educators in a variety of interdisciplinary settings by facilitating a community of practice involving researchers, graduate student, teachers, curriculum designers, and administrators. After a short introduction to the theoretical background, we will present on our experiences implementing theory in practice in school and university settings.  Together with the audience we will explore the role of intercultural competence, intercultural citizenship, as well as interdisciplinarity in education.
