  • 11/16 Intercultural Comedian Jesse Appell to Perform

Jesse Appell, known for his "Gangnam Style" spoof that went viral on YouTube, will be performing his comedy act on Wednesday, November 16 at 7:00pm on UConn's Storrs campus in Laurel Hall, room 102. The Fulbright scholar and comedian who has lived in Beijing, China, since 2012 will perform his comedy show and discuss his unique brand of intercultural comedy that mixes both American and Chinese humor in an effort to connect Chinese and Western culture through comedy.  The event is free and open to the public.

Jesse’s show, which will also focus on the more humorous aspects of Jewish life in China, is the third installment in a series on Jewish humor co-sponsored by UConn’s Center for Judaic Studies and Contemporary Jewish Life and UHart’s Maurice Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies.  This event is also made possible by UConn’s Asian and Asian American Studies Institute and UConn’s Asian American Cultural Center.

As well as studying and performing Xiangsheng, a 150-year old Chinese comedy folk art, Jesse also performs bilingual improv and has been showcased on Chinese television. He has been featured on NPR and PBS.
