  • 10/7 UConn Police to Host "Coffee with a Cop"

October 7th has been recognized by the U.S Department of Justice as National Coffee with a Cop Day. Coffee with a Cop is a national program where community members come together with their local police in an informal space to discuss community issues, build relationships, and drink coffee.

All UCONN students, faculty and staff are invited to attend this community partnership building event which runs from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the UCONN’s Babbidge Library, lobby area.

Coffee with a Cop specifically provides the unique opportunity for students, faculty and staff to ask questions and learn more about the police department’s work within UCONN’s campus.

As you know, the majority of contacts law enforcement have with the public happen during emergencies, or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community, and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. Coffee with a Cop breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the county, as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.

The Coffee with a Cop program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time. For more information on the Coffee with a Cop program, visit http://coffeewithacop.com/

Thank you for your time and we look forward to seeing you all on the 7th.
