    Dura Biotech is a new venture based on unique technology created at UConn. The following opportunities will provide the selected candidates with experience working in an entrepreneurial environment as well as business and/or research experience as applied to a critical medical need.

     

    1)      Mechanical or biomedical engineers

    Title: Mechanical or biomedical engineering research assistant  

    Location: UConn – Storrs 

    Part Time Position - 15-20 hours per week at $12-$15 per hour based on level of research experience

    Job description:  The research assistant will be assigned to work with senior personnel to carry out research activities on a specific project. The research assistant will be responsible for a range of tasks, depending on the nature of the project, including performing experimental work such as testing the prosthetic heart valve devices, collecting data, basic data analysis, designing mechanical components of a prosthetic heart valve device through developing CAD models. Other tasks involve machining, fabricating and assembling metal and plastic components. These research and internship experiences will build students' marketable skills which can be used in both academic research and industry upon graduation.  

    Number of position available: 2-3

    Requirements:

    -          Junior or senior undergraduate engineering students or a graduate students with a BS degree in Engineering

    -          Proficiency across the Microsoft Office platform (specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

    -          Good verbal and written communications skills; ability to effectively convey ideas, present research, and contribute to reports

    -          Flexibility to learn and adapt to new procedures

    -          Basic knowledge of human anatomy,  and ability to operate instruments and scientific equipment – operational experience is a                plus

    -          Knowledge of CAD modeling is a big plus.

     

    2)      One part-time administrative support position

    Title: General administrative support

    Job description: Ordering, purchasing, writing contracts, answering company phone, maintaining company documents,  bookkeeping, travel and meeting scheduling.

    Part Time Position – 10-15 hours per week at $15-$20 per hour based on level of experience.

    Requirements:

    -          A minimum of 3 years of working experience as office administrative support,

    -          Proficiency across the Microsoft Office platform (specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint),

    -          Excellent verbal and written communications skills,

    -          Knowledge of Quickbook is preferred.

    -          Business students or engineering students may qualify if they demonstrate  experience with tasks noted

Dura Biotech has dedicated offices and laboratory space at the TIP’s Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL) Building. Dura Biotech develops innovative technologies to improve the functionality and durability of bioprosthetic heart valves, in particular transcatheter heart valves. Dura Biotech leverages its unique technical strengths in soft tissue biomechanics and patient-specific computer simulation to rapidly translate medical device ideas from concept to reality.
