  • TLC Alt Break: Christian Appalachian Project

Are you interested in a Christian alternative spring break to help some of the most impoverished people in the country? Each year, a group of students from St. Thomas Aquinas at UConn travels to rural Eastern Kentucky to assist the Christian Appalachian Project with their mission of improving the quality of life in this region. We work alongside long-term volunteers, helping to build and repair homes. At the same time, we build relationships with the families we serve as well as with fellow participants from UConn and other schools. There is time for prayer, devotion, and learning all about the Appalachian culture.

If you feel called to spend your spring break in the mountains of Kentucky, you are invited to apply for the trip. Please note that the application process is competitive, since we can only take a limited number of participants. If chosen for the trip, you will be required to raise a minimum of $250 individually, in addition to assisting with group fundraising efforts.

The online application (see below) is due Tue, October 25. We will be discussing the trip in detail and answering any questions at the next meeting of Tom's Leadership Council (TLC), scheduled for Thu, Oct 6 at 5:00 pm in the St. Thomas Aquinas Center. If you are unable to attend the meeting, don't hesitate to contact us with any questions.
