    UConn Spring Valley Student Farm

Are you interested in gardening or local food production? Would you like to learn some organic soil building growing techniques to improve the quality of your vegetables, herbs, flowers or shrubs?

Then plan to tour UConn’s own Spring Valley Student Farm (SVSF) on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 from 3 PM to 8 PM.

The students living and working at SVSF will lead guided tours of the fields, greenhouses and edible forest garden where they cultivate a wide variety of sustainably grown vegetables, herbs, edible flowers and small fruits. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the on-going Aquaponic IDEA grant and Solar Thermal projects. The tours are open to all.

Feel free to join us any Tuesday throughout the summer for some hands-on learning with plants and soil.  No previous experience necessary! We provide the tools, techniques and opportunity to explore the fascinating world of healthy food production. Remember to dress for outdoor conditions. Other dates and times are available to volunteer. Just contact Julia to schedule a time to visit SVSF.

SVSF produce is served at Chuck and Augie’s restaurant and One Plate Two Plates in the Student Union and at select dining halls. It is available for purchase at the Farm Fresh Market located in the garden directly behind the William Benton Museum of Art every Thursday from 11:30 to 1:30 May through August.

Spring Valley Student Farm is collaboration with Dining Services, Residential Life, College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources, EcoHouse as part of First Year Programs and Learning Communities, Office of Environmental Policy, and Office of Public Engagement – Service Learning.

The farm is located at 104 Spring Manor Road, Mansfield, CT, 06268 just off Route 32 north of the Route 44 intersection. Turn at the big blue UConn Spring Manor Farm sign.
