  • 2/5 Activist Identity Retreat Invitation

    Greetings-

We would like to introduce a program series that will be launched during the Spring 2016 semester, sponsored by the Women's Center. Johanna Debari, Dominic Ortiz, and I are co-facilitating an Activist Identity Retreat this semester. This retreat is open up to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Connecticut.

The mission of this program is to foster dialogue amongst UConn’s activist community around intersectionality and identity through the sharing of information and experience, and creating a space of rejuvenation for activist fatigue. This program seeks to fulfill this mission through four separate, but connected sessions. The content of this program has been designed to build upon each other. For this reason, participants in this program must be able to attend all four sessions. We are accepting up to 20 participants.

Session 1, Friday, February 5th, 5-7 pm: Who am I? Identities at the Intersections.

Session 2, Wednesday, March 2nd, 5-7 pm: What’s your “soapbox”?

Session 3, Wednesday, March 23rd, 5-7 pm: Self-Care and Sustainability

Session 4, Friday, April 15th, 5-7 pm: Reflection and Reconnection

The location for these sessions is to be announced. Food and beverages will be provided for participants.

If you are interested in participating in this program, please fill out the following survey so we can structure the sessions to best accommodate your needs. The deadline for this application is Tuesday, February 2nd at 5pm. Thank you for your consideration, and we look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Sincerely,

Huong Nguyen, Johanna DeBari, and Dominic Ortiz
