  • 12/6 Yule Be Swingin'

Yule Be Swingin’, the annual holiday concert of the UConn Jazz Studies program will take place on Sunday, Dec. 6th at 1pm in von der Mehden Recital Hall.  In lieu of an admission charge, donations and non-perishable food items will be collected for WAIM (the Windham Area Interfaith Ministry) to assist families in need.

This year the concert will feature E-Bop, a band that combines undergraduate students playing with their professors (albeit on their secondary instruments).  Known for his work as a pianist, Earl MacDonald, UConn’s Director of Jazz Studies will keep time from behind the drum set.  Similarly, guitar instructor Doug Maher will demonstrate his saxophonic prowess.  Rounding out the band will be undergraduate students Andrew Wynsen on piano, Mike O’Callaghan on trumpet and Nate Giordano on string bass.

The group will be upholding the long tradition of jazz musicians interpreting seasonal favorites. This family-friendly, Sundayafternoon concert will even include selections from Charlie Brown’s Christmas Special, scored by Vince Guaraldi.  What a great way to get yourself into the spirit of the season!
