America Reads is a Community Outreach program that works in 8 schools in Mansfield, Windham, Willington, and Hartford. Participants work to strengthen students’ reading and writing skills through individualized and group tutoring in pre-K through 10th grade. America Reads works to decrease student illiteracy in schools in the community and provide support in a classroom setting to create a positive learning experience for the students. America Reads participants make meaningful connections with students, act as positive role models, lower the student to adult ratio in the classroom, and provide additional academic support. On campus, volunteers will get to learn more about the greater issues surrounding literacy and education both locally and nationwide.
