  • 7/21 Insect Wonders at Spring Valley Student Farm

Special Event July 21 during Farm Tuesdays at Spring Valley Student Farm!

Come visit UConn’s own student farm on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 from 9 AM to 10:30 and 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM for Insect Wonders at the Farm. We will have buggy activities suitable for the whole family! Enjoy a tour of the Farm, bug scavenger hunt, insect crafts, and learn some interesting insect facts with Dr. Ana Legrand. Check out bugs.uconn.edu for more details.

The farm is home to 8 students this summer who are growing an amazing variety of vegetables, herbs and flowers served at UConn’s Chuck and Augie’s restaurant and 1Plate2Plate in the Student Union and at select dining halls. The produce is also for sale at the Farm Fresh Market on Fairfield Way near the Student Union on Thursdays from 11:30 to 1:30.

The students will lead guided tours of the fields and greenhouses loaded with fresh sustainably grown vegetables, herbs and flowers. They will also discuss the Edible Forest Garden Permaculture project. You are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in the beautiful scenic Willimantic River valley.

Would you like to roll up your sleeves and get a little dirty? Would you like to learn by doing while helping as a volunteer on the farm? You are welcome to join us any Tuesday this summer from 3-8 PM for some hands-on experiential farming.  No previous experience necessary! All tools and equipment are provided. Remember to dress for outdoor conditions.

Spring Valley Student Farm is collaboration with Dining Services, Residential Life, EcoHouse as part of First Year Programs and Learning Communities, and the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources.

The farm is located at 104 Spring Manor Road, Mansfield, CT, 06268 just off Route 32 north of the Route 44 intersection. Turn at the big blue UConn Spring Manor Farm sign.
