The Benton is hosting eight Fridays of carefree drawing beginning June 5, from noon to 2 pm. Come draw to your heart’s content! Explore your creative side, whether you're talented or just curious.
SO WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT?
The Benton is offering you a reason to get away from it all for a little while and doodle, draw, or sketch whatever catches your fancy in the museum’s galleries. Come to have fun. We'll provide everything you need to draw, or you can bring your own dry materials.
WHEN: Every Friday from June 5 to July 31, except July 3 — from noon to 2 pm
NOTE THESE SPECIAL THEME DAYS
June 12 – Mythology 101: Sketch classical Greek and Roman figures from artworks in the museum's Gilman Gallery. Draw the works as they are or infuse them with your own ideas!
June 26 – Protest Posters: Sit among the posters from the Vietnam War era and let them spark your own political fire. Design your own protest poster, depicting anything you feel strongly about, be it human rights or other current issues.
July 17 – Puppet Masters: Draw yourself, your friends, family, co-workers, etc. as puppets fashioned after the unique creatures in our East Gallery exhibition of Speak Up! Speak Out! Bread & Puppet Theater — or draw those puppets themselves. Creepy or cute, you pull the strings and hold the pencil.
July 31 – Self-Portraits With a Twist: After a summer in the Benton, it's likely you have a favorite work of art. Here's your chance to become a part of it! Use this time to draw yourself into the piece, either replacing the main figure or hiding yourself somewhere in the image. It's up to you!
