STUDY ABROAD AND INTERN IN TURKEY
UCONN SUSTAINABLE ENERGY AND DEVELOPMENT IN ISTANBUL, TURKEY

UConn Sustainable Energy and Development in Istanbul consists of a 3 credit course--POLS 3993: Foreign Study: Sustainable Energy and Development in Istanbul--and a 3 credit internship--POLS 3991 or HRTS 4291. It will introduce students to the economic, political and social aspects of developing sustainable energy in Turkey’s emerging market. Students will get exposure to Turkish scholars and energy industry experts on various issues such as privatization of energy markets, environmental impact of fossil fuels and nuclear energy, civil society activism and public opinion on clean energy, renewable energy and technologies. There will be a variety of field trips to power plants, wind farms and hydroelectric dams in and close to Istanbul. In addition, students will intern with an international energy company in Istanbul, and in the process, acquire research and practical skills analyzing energy and development projects, their environmental sustainability and human rights standards. This program is open to all majors, including engineering, human rights, political science, economics, and environmental science.
