  • 3/24 The Ally Project

The Rainbow Center will be launching The Ally Project, a project aimed at identifying allies to the LGBTQIA community who may be seen as having a positive influence on their peers. The purpose of the project is to provide students with tools and strategies to become a more intentional ally. The Ally Project will run for five weeks. Weekly meetings will focus on topics related to gender-based violence and stereotypes, phobias, oppression, allies in the media, and bystander interventions. These meetings will take place on Tuesday nights at 8:00pm starting March 24, 2015 in the main room of the Rainbow Center on the 4th floor of the Student Union.

All students are encouraged to sign up and seek understanding on what it means to be an ally and work towards creating a more inclusive environment for all. We are looking for a diverse group of students with unique experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. Ideal candidates are students who identify as cisgender and heterosexual allies and are sensitive to issues surrounding the LGBTQIA community. It is essential that these students be open to collective and collaborative learning.

Students interested in participating must email virginia.cabrera@uconn.edu no later than March 13, 2015.
