School, Program, and Course Information

  • Are You Interested in an Individualized Major?

An Individualized Major is a SELF-DESIGNED, INTERDISCIPLINARY MAJOR that offers students the opportunity to tailor a program of study to fit their particular set of interests. Each year about 60 students graduate with an individualized major. Recent major titles include International Relations, Neuroscience, Religion, Film Studies, Health and Social Inequality, Deaf Studies, Biochemistry, Social Interaction and New Media, and many more.

    So much is possible!

As one recent graduate noted: “Being able to be in charge of my education has made me so much prouder of what I do and has made my college experience extremely rewarding.”

If you are a FRESHMAN or SOPHOMORE interested in an individualized major, you should enroll in the one-credit gateway course to the individualized major: UNIV 2600 Individualized Study Across Academic Disciplines. E-mail monica.vanbeusekom@uconn.edu or michael.cunningham@uconn.edu for more information and a permission number.

JUNIORS who wish to pursue an individualized major as a single major must apply no later than Feb. 23, 2015 or as a double major, no later than March 30, 2015. Contact Monica or Michael as soon as possible.
