  • An Item for your To Do List: Visit The Benton

    ALERT!

If you’ve been meaning to come see the Benton exhibitions of landscapes and photography, it's this week or never! They’ll be closing at 4:30 on Sunday, December 14th.

CHEM 101: The Science of Photography was envisioned by chemistry professor C. Vijay Kumar to "bring science to lay people, to connect science with the public." Featured photographers include Ellen Carey, Kate Cordsen, John Cyr, Jonathan Kline, Michelle Kloehn, Amanda Means, Mariah Robertson, Alison Rossiter, and Jerry Spagnoli, who lay bare the chemical origins of their medium to offer work that is both visually striking and awesomely scientific.

Land Grant Landscapes: Pre-1950 American Landscapes from the Benton Museum focuses on classic landscapes by the likes of Maurice Prendergast, Emil Carlson and Ernest Lawson, representing several schools, including Hudson River, Ashcan and American Impressionism.

Five Centuries of the Benton's Best, the permanent installation in the Gilman Gallery, presents the museum’s most admired items, including a lovely mother and child by Mary Cassatt, prints by Kathe Kollwitz, paintings by Reginald Marsh, who was a college friend of the William Benton.

Museum hours: Tuesday through Friday 10 to 4:30 / Saturday and Sunday 1 to 4:30
