  • UConn Blooms Has Succulents and Cactus

Cacti and Succulents are perfectly suited to a student's life style!  Though it is not quite correct to say that these plants thrive on neglect, they do require far less care than most other plants.  Although most are desert dwellers, these plants only require some very good light with minimal watering in your dorm. You can go away for a long weekend or even a week and not worry about its care.  Cacti and Succulents are able to thrive in a variety of environments because their spines and tough skins make them highly resistant to pests and predators and because their stems, leaves or roots can hold large amounts of water over long periods of time.

Pin Wheel, Black Tree, Crocodile Jaws, Saguaro, Silver Touch, Silver Crown, Organ Pipe are just some of the varieties we have in our greenhouse.  They come in different sizes, different colors with prehistoric, bizarre shapes and a gift for survival.  Just when you thought you had a brown thumb and kill all your plants, Cacti and succulents will cure you of that feeling.

And if it's the more tropical, lush plant you're looking for, UConn Blooms has a greenhouse full of low-light plants for any environment.  We have a wonderful selection of large orchid plants to give you color and blossom longevity to your room.  Enter our Keep It Growing Contest and win a dozen red roses at Valentine's Day.  Check out our website for more details, www.uconnblooms.uconn.edu

UConn Blooms is located in the Floriculture Building across from the yellow barn on Route 195 (Storrs Road).  We are open from 10:30 to 5:00 Monday through Friday with parking available in designated spaces in our driveway alongside the greenhouse.
