SOUTH CAMPUS DORMITORIES – Construction at Snow, Rome, Wilson and Rosebrooks Halls

Beginning on June 23, 2014, contractors will be undertaking two different and concurrent construction projects on the South Campus Dormitory Buildings – Snow, Rome, Wilson and Rosebrooks Halls. The work areas will be at both the interior and exterior of the building structures. The first project involves the installation of supplemental wood blocking and steel beams within the attic spaces. The overall duration for this project work is set at eight to ten weeks.

The second construction project will be the removal and replacement of existing cast stone on the exterior of the four building structures. Our schedule prioritizes all entrances that have been temporarily protected with scaffolding and planking with the intention to get the adjacent locations above the entrances addressed first so the overhead protection can be removed. The removal of the existing cast stone will utilize a boom and scissor type man lift and a crane to lift the pieces off the structures and safely lower them to ground level. Once the existing stone components are removed temporary waterproofing will be installed and remain in place until the new pre-cast is delivered to the job site. The overall project duration is set at six months.

The construction work will begin at 6:30 a.m. each day Monday through Friday (Saturday for a weather day if necessary) and end at 3:30 p.m.  At times entrances/exits to the buildings will be designated for emergency exit use only.  This will be done when crews are working over entrances/exits.  Please use other entrances/exits when directed.  Sidewalks will also be closed at times.  Students/Summer Guests and staff who use wheelchairs will be allowed to pass through when deemed safe by on site safety crews.

Summer Guests should ensure their privacy by shutting window shades when work is occurring outside your window.  We also request that residents and the campus community respect safety barriers and on site safety crews which are in place to provide a safe environment for everyone.
