  • Popular Culture Sociology Course (Fall 2014)

How many hours per day do you spend browsing social networking sites, listening to music on Pandora, or binge watching television shows on Netflix? How important is culture and popular culture to your everyday life? Is there a difference between the two?

This course will answer these questions and many more by helping students to understand technology driven cultural changes; the intersection of corporations, consumers, and cultural producers; and the political and ideological dimensions of culture that are a part of contemporary society.

Students will apply these understandings to their daily lives in order to enhance their ability to both analyze and critique the world around them and comprehend the varying influences of culture in general, and popular culture in particular.
