If you are a student who is graduating this spring than we have a useful tip for you and your fellow peers in the Class of 2014!! We know there is probably a lot on your plate this last semester but it is important that you make a little time for one more important thing before it’s too late! If you were not aware, after you graduate your UConn g-mail account will be deleted 30 days into the following Fall semester. With that said, we want to make sure all of your important e-mails, contacts and any information you may need for the future are safe and aren’t lost forever. How do you do this you might be wondering? Great question! Start backing up your account using Google Takeout.

Here’s how to back up your account with Google Takeout:

  1. Start by going to google.uconn.edu and first click on Opt-In to Public Services. Opting in allows access to Google Takeout where you back up your G-mail and Google Drive.
  2. Once you confirm your enrollment in Public Services, navigate to google.com/takeout and click “Create an archive”.
  3. Check the boxes of what you would like to backup and then click “Create Archive.” You can choose the file format you wish the data to download as – this defaults to zip file.

More information can be found at google.uconn.edu and clicking on the Backup Account Data button.
