  • New summer online course in Nutritional Sciences

The Department of Nutritional Sciences will offer a new summer online course, NUSC 4280 – US Food Laws and Regulations: Product Concept through Launch. 3 Credits. 5-Week during Summer Session I (June 1- July 2)

Understanding the regulatory environment is critical to the successful development, manufacturing, labeling, marketing, and delivery of nutrition-related products to the consumer.  Knowing how to manage risk while navigating the regulatory path to the market is essential. Students in this course will become familiar with: the process for developing new nutrition products; the regulations applicable to foods, medical foods, dietary supplements and ingredients; and how to represent scientific evidence accurately and appropriately when substantiating label claims and advertisements.

This course will be taught by Dr. Susan Mitmesser, VP of Science & Technology at Pharmavite (well known for Nature Made Dietary supplements). Dr. Susan Mitmesser has been leading companies for their products in the food and dietary supplements industry for many years. She will provide practical information that students may not learn from other courses.

Any questions related to this course can be sent to Dr. Mitmesser (susan.mitmesser@uconn.edu) or Dr. Ji-Young Lee (ji-young.lee@uconn.edu).
