  • Volunteer with Disadvantaged Children

    Volunteer with Disadvantaged Children at a Domestic Violence Crisis Center in Stamford/Norwalk, CT 

    As funded through the UConn Co-Op Legacy Fellowship-Change Grant we are implementing a STEM program initiative at a Domestic Violence Crisis Center in Stamford/Norwalk, CT. The Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) is looking for volunteers for the upcoming summer barring any COVID-19 complications. We are looking for passionate and committed volunteers to help out with a trauma-informed STEM program initiative that will be educating children, K-8th, on health literacy, basic science fundamentals and emotion-based art therapy projects. In addition to being trained to work with children impacted by domestic violence at these crisis centers, volunteers have the ability to get involved in community outreach measures, Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) planning and fundraising, and direct service opportunities (working in the safehouses, answering the hotlines and facilitating support groups with an additional 20 hour certification which can be provided). Internship opportunities are also available at DVCC, for further information please email your resume and brief email explaining your interest. 

    Volunteer Description: 

    • Commit to completing a 2 hour training and orientation prior to volunteering

    • Commit to volunteering with the STEM program for at least once a week for 2 hours; additional hours and experiences are available as mentioned above

    • Leadership positions are available within this STEM program 

    Volunteer/Intern Application Requirements: 

    • Interview and orientation required

    • Interest in working with victim survivors of domestic violence, children and underserved communities  

    • Previous community service or volunteer experience

    • Ability to commit to volunteering duties!
