On Campus Job Opportunities

  • Daily Campus Hiring Designers

    5 open positions, $12/hour, roughly 4 - 8 hours a week

The Daily Campus is looking to hire new designers for the fall semester! Designers work one night a week to design all the pages for one section of the newspaper (News, Life, or Sports) using InDesign (click here for an example). They arrange elements like headlines, articles, images, graphics, and captions to best feature our content and express creativity.

No experience is necessary! We are looking for applicants who:

    • Are flexible — stories and photos may come in late, technology may break, and designs may need to change last minute

    • Have good communication skills and can work on a team

    • Have a good sense of design aesthetics

    • Are quick and willing learners

    • Most importantly, we want designers who are invested in the job, and hope to gain some kind of personal development out of the position.

Designers work one night a week (Sun - Thurs) from 7 p.m. until roughly midnight. Designers finish when all the stories are in and their pages are completed, so this could be as early as 10:30, or as late as 2 a.m. (although this is rare).

In addition to weekly shifts we hold monthly meetings at 4:30 p.m. on Sundays to discuss improvements and changes, and learn new skills. Beginning designers are also required to attend a training session the weekend before classes begin in the fall.

TO APPLY, email managingeditor@dailycampus.com with a cover letter explaining what you hope to gain from the job and why you think you’re qualified, your unofficial transcript, and a sample design. This sample design can be made digitally or hand-drawn, but should be an example newspaper design featuring at least two articles with headlines, text, photos, and captions, although filler content may be used. Click here for an example. Applications should be submitted by May 2.
