  • Job Ad: Summer Camp Instructors for BRAIN CAMP

              Join BRAIN CAMP for a fun and rewarding summer as a Camp Instructor! This is a unique 5-week day camp for students of ages 8 to 11 with reading difficulties—especially dyslexia. The campers will: (1) participate in reading or math lessons; (2) participate in fun summer activities; and (3) take part in multiple brain scan sessions to see how the lessons change the brain. We are looking for highly motivated and dedicated UConn undergraduates with leadership skills, who have experience working with elementary-age children in a camp, daycare, or educational setting (or similar). 

    Work Hours 

    • Period: July 13 to August 14, 2020 (5 consecutive weeks, weekdays only) 

    • Typical hours: Monday – Friday: 8:30am - 4:00pm (Camp hours 9:00 - 3:30) 

    • The position also requires attendance of pre-camp events/trainings that are started in early June. These may take ~ 5 hours/day (estimated 6 days in total over two weeks).  

    • Attend post-camp events (held sometime in the week of Aug 17) to wrap up any logistics required.  

    Location 

    • UConn Storrs Campus 

    Essential Job Responsibilities 

    • Available for every day (~7.5 hours) of the camp for the entire program. 

    • Provide group supervision of campers and with attention to behavior and group management, safety, security and skill development.  

    • Implement BRAIN CAMP activities as designed by the program, e.g., working with students on academic activities, leading outdoor activities. 

     • Provide a safe, inclusive and fun learning environment while serving as a positive role model for campers. Flexible and adaptable in a high-intensity research environment. Offer choice and maintain flexibility within the planned activities of the program.  

    • Assist and support the Camp Director. Work collegially with colleagues.  

    Compensation 

    • Instructors will be compensated at a competitive rate on an hourly basis, including the training period. 

    Minimum Qualifications 

    • Motivated, responsible, reliable, organized and flexible. Enthusiastic but yet have a calming influence. 

    • Previous experience working with children in an educational or camp setting.
