Perceptual Learning of Degraded Speech – Human Subjects Requested

Volunteers are needed to participate in a research study titled “Perceptual Learning for Degraded Speech.” The purpose of this study is to investigate how listeners understand degraded speech.

Monolingual, English-speaking adults between 18–35 years of age with no previous history of speech, language, hearing, or neurological impairment are invited to participate. The research takes place in 1–3 sessions approximately 60 minutes long. Participants will listen to speech over headphones and be asked to press buttons to indicate what they hear. We will also measure your eye movements using an eye-tracker. There are no direct benefits to individual participants. In terms of benefits to society, the research stands to yield significant new knowledge regarding human language understandingwhich may inform rehabilitation protocols for individuals with hearing loss. Participants will receive monetary compensation for participation.
