Widespread conflict and poverty throughout the years has stalled healthcare development in Laos. It is common for children to die from preventable conditions and treatable diseases, such as malaria, pneumonia, and diarrhea. Malnutrition is widespread and immunization rates are low.
The Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC), opened on 2015, treats more than 20,000 children annually, medically train the next generation of Lao doctors and nurses, and help educate family members on topics as nutrition, vaccinations, breastfeeding, oral health, family planning, and disease-prevention.
