  • 10/23 Join UAID to Fight Health Inequity

Are you interested in alleviating health inequities in our surrounding communities and on the UConn campus itself?

Join United Against Inequities in Disease (UAID), a nationally recognized public health-oriented group that works in places like Willimantic and Windham to address disparities in health status. In the past, we have worked with Windham Middle School to develop a program called "That's Life" which taught young girls about body positivity and health eating. We also worked with Windham No Freeze to assess the needs of the homeless population as well as GrowWindham to teach high school students about why community gardens are important. More recently, we led the MyPlate initiative on campus to bring nutrition information to dining halls to help facilitate the transition to responsible healthy eating habits in our freshmen.

This year, we are looking to work with professionals tackling the opioid epidemic by holding monthly seminars, organize an Integrated Medicine Fair, and perform a Community Needs Assessment for the communities of either Willimantic or Vernon to determine what these cities need to alleviate health inequities.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, October 23 from 6-7PM in CHEM T112. We will be discussing our plans for the year and leadership opportunities available!

    See you then!
