  • 10/26 Hike For HASB to Support Affordable Housing

Honors Across State Borders (HASB) is hosting its first hiking fundraiser!

As a group of about 50 students, we travel to an impoverished area for our Spring Break and help build affordable homes with local groups like Habitat for Humanity. Working together throughout the week, we take the time to look into and learn about the issues surrounding the local areas such as social inequity, poverty, and the need for affordable housing. This year we will be traveling to New Orleans, Louisiana to work with United Saints Recovery Project to frame a new house and restore an existing home for local families in need. Come out and support HASB and what we work for!

The hike will take place on Saturday, October 26th at 1pm, it will be under 3 miles, and is dog-friendly! We will start at the Red Barn on Horsebarn Hill Road (3625 Horsebarn Hill Rd. Storrs, CT 06269) Parking can be accessed at W Lot across the street.

Before the hike, we will have free food and will talk about our organization and what we plan to do this year! It does count as an Honors Event too (the UHL # is 465).

There is no registration fee, but we will be accepting donations in the form of cash, check (made out to UConn Honors Across State Borders), or Venmo (@Brendan-Hogan-24). The money we raise will be used to fund the cost of our trip such as transportation, housing, and a donation to the service organization we will be working with.
