Swing dancing is a dance style, or a group of dances, originating from Harlem, New York with Afro-American Roots. The feeling of the dance is "swinging", as it developed to the swing style of jazz music from the 1920s to the 1940s or 50s. It is a typically a partner dance, energetic, carefree, and joyous.

Blues dancing is an umbrella term for a family of historical and modern dances done to blues music. Rooted in African movement, blues dance places a high value on improvisation, rhythm, polyrhythm, and solo movements. Although there are many moves to be learned, it is quite improvizational at heart, and allows individuals to stylistically and creatively express the music.
