  • Universitas 21 Student Opportunity RISE Showcase

Are you a student with a project focused on a sustainability venture or a social enterprise? Then come to an informational session to learn more about the RISE Showcase. Make global connections and scale up your project.

RISE – Real Impact on Society and Environment – is a Universitas 21 (U21) opportunity to showcase student projects tied to sustainability and social innovation and to connect those students with a network of experts in academia and industry.

The University of Connecticut has been invited to nominate a student-led project that addresses at least one of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.  In order to select a nominee, UConn is holding an internal competition first. The winning individual or team will be nominated to the U21 RISE Showcase, in addition to receiving seed funding for their project from UConn Global Affairs.

     Project Requirements

    • Address one (or more) of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
    • Be at an action or implementation stage
    • Be led by a team of up to 7 students. Individuals may submit projects as well.
    • Submission of a written application (for UConn competition) and a presentation in the format of an original video pitch (to be submitted to U21). You can see winning videos from previous U21 student opportunities here:

     Why Take Part?

At UConn, the winner of the internal competition will receive $1000 in seed funding for their project, the first runner-up will receive $750 in seed funding and the second runner-up will receive $500 for their project.

For the U21 RISE competition, the winning individual/team from UConn will have access to a global audience of experts in academia and industry. U21 will ensure that the projects will receive expert support and international exposure. The culmination of the showcase will be the RISE Awards, where a panel of experts will review the entries and award prizes.
