  • FAMILEE Mentee Applications Open

Are you a new student on campus? Do you want a low-commitment, fun way to get involved with the Rainbow Center? Apply to be a mentee in our FAMILEE Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Program!

What is the FAMILEE Mentoring Program?

Fostering Academics, Maturity, Independence, Leadership, Empowerment & Excellence (F.A.M.I.L.E.E.) pairs new students with continuing students during their first or transfer year, involving group activities and one-on-one meetings. This program is designed to assist students in their first year at UConn-Storrs (including regional campus and transfer students) with their transition.

    Who can become a mentee?

    • Mentees should be first-year or transfer students (first year on campus) on the UConn-Storrs campus.
    • Mentors should want to make the most of their first year on campus, and should believe that a mentoring program could contribute to their experience.
    • While no member of the FAMILEE Mentoring Program is required to identify with (or disclose) LGBTQIA+ identity, an interest in discussing/attending programs related to the LGBTQIA+ community will be important, as this mentoring program is centered around the LGBTQIA+ student experience.

    What are the program expectations?

Mentor and mentee pairs will meet regularly (recommended: 2 times a month in the Fall, 1 time a month in the Spring), to check in and grow together. Additionally, all mentors and mentees meet in a large group FAMILEE Reunions, approximately 5 in the Fall, 2 in the Spring. Everyone is strongly encouraged to attend at least one Rainbow Center event each semester outside of the F.A.M.I.L.E.E. events. Finally, all participants have the opportunity to take on leadership positions in the organization to help plan events and programs for FAMILEE participants. The program is structured so there is more involvement in the Fall semester to support the initial transition to campus.
