  • 4/17 Spatial Data and Spatial Data Visualization with R

UConn Data Science will be hosting a talk featuring Dr. Guanyu Hu.

This talk attempts to give a brief introduction of spatial data and spatial data visualization in R. Researchers in diverse areas such as climatology, ecology, environmental health, and real estate marketing are increasingly faced with the task of analyzing spatial data. There are three different types of spatial data, including point-reference data, areal data, and spatial point pattern data. Based on the three different types of spatial data, Dr. Hu will give simple examples to explain them. In addition, Dr. Hu will show how to visualize spatial data based on R package. Finally, Dr. Hu will discuss potential research topics in spatial statistics.

Dr. Guanyu Hu is a postdoctoral research associate in Department of statistics at UConn. Dr. Hu got his Ph.D degree from Florida State University in 2017. His current research interests lie in the fields of Spatial Statistics, Bayesian Variable Selection, Big Data Inference, Spatial Point Pattern, Spatial Survival Analysis, Nonparametric Bayesian Method, Spatial methods in Environment Statistics, Spatial Econometric, Spatial Missing Data, Bayesian Computation Methods, Subsampling Method, Bayesian Adaptive Design.

The meeting will be held in Monteith 319 at 6:00 PM on April 17, 2019.
