Volunteer Opportunities

  • Interested in mentoring a Mansfield child?

    Big Friends needs you!!!!

Big Friends is a UConn Community Outreach mentoring program for K-8th grade students who live in the Mansfield area. Big Friends is a partnership between UConn Community Outreach and Mansfield Youth Services. This program supports children and their families by encouraging social and emotional enrichment through 1-on-1 and group interactions.

UConn Big Friends will be paired with a K-8th grade student. Through this pairing, Big Friends work to build a stable relationship with their student by being a positive, enthusiastic, supportive role model. As a Big Friend, volunteers must take an interest in their students’ lives and be present throughout the whole the program. Big Friends will be a support system to the students and will help them grow socially and emotionally. This program aims to cultivate students’ self-worth and confidence in their abilities by stressing the importance of social interaction and development.

MYS Big Friends meets every Tuesday from 5:15-6:45 at the Mansfield Town Hall in Storrs Center. Because the town hall is right across the street from Price Chopper, transportation is not provided. The Green Line bus has a stop about 1 minute away from Mansfield Town Hall.

Big Friends is looking for any undergraduate student who is enthusiastic, positive, supportive, passionate, and available on Tuesday nights!
